Bring your curiosity, creativity, and tech skills to this extended-format hackathon. From April 5 to April 28, create a digital game inspired by the Museum.

You must purchase a hackathon ticket from the Philadelphia Museum of Art's site, here in order to be eligible to win. To submit a project on DevPost, you'll be asked for your Order Confirmation number on your Hackathon ticket from the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

During Philly Tech Week, present your game to a panel of judges and a public audience for a chance to win the grand prize ($2,000 and Museum memberships for each team member), the People’s Choice award ($500), or both.

Challenge Details

Create a digital game inspired by the Museum. Teams can have up to six members. Bring a team or form one at the kickoff.

Your Hackathon Ticket Includes:

  • Admission to the Hackathon 2.0 kickoff on April 5, Hacklabs on April 12 and 19, and final judging on May 3rd

  • A GitHub repository containing access to iBeacons installed in the Museum; collections information for artworks on view in a JSON file, including thumbnail and large image assets; and digital floor plans of the Museum

  • Team workspace designed by Hive76

  • Food and drinks

  • Access to Museum staff for questions about Museum data, art, and testing

You must purchase a hackathon ticket from the Philadelphia Museum of Art's site, here in order to be eligible to win. To submit a project on DevPost, you will be asked for your Order Confirmation number on your Hackathon ticket from the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Requirements

Team members must purchase a hackathon ticket from the Philadelphia Museum of Art's site, here in order to be eligible to win. 

Your team is required to submit a video demo of your game as a URL in the Devpost required Video URL field under Submissions by April 28 at 10PM EDT.

Projects should be developed during the course of the month-long hackathon.

We do ask for source code for the judges to review. While we encourage participants to consider open source, it is not required- all files uploaded will only be seen by the judges and hackathon managers. We ask for source code for review, not ownership, as stated in the IP agreement, here

PEOPLE'S CHOICE: vote for your favorite Hackathon 2.0 digital game. One group will win a total of $500.

  1. Start by buying a ticket from the Philadelphia Museum of Art's site, here.
  2. Register on DevPost, create a project, and add your teammates.
  3. Spend the month of April with your team to build a game that wows the judges and the public. Museum staff will be available in person and online at specific times- further information will be shared with participants.
  4. Submit your project on DevPost by 10PM EDT, April 28th, and may the best game win!

  • Innovation
    Does the game use technology and the Museum’s collection in a creative way? Does it distinguish itself from existing digital game experiences?
  • Feasibility
    Is the game functional? Is the technology scalable? Does the technology have dependencies? How sustainable is it?
  • Engagement
    Is the game experience playable, engaging, and motivating? Does it create new ways to encourage Museum visitors to explore the galleries and the collection? Does the game connect players with each other and with the collection?
